About Barry R. Smith

Barry R. Smith

Smith’s designs of Hotels, Restaurants, Housing, Institutions, and Commercial Buildings have resulted in the development of projects as varied as profitable, luxury international hotels to sustainable and affordable local in-fill housing. Smith has received National, State, City, and Private Group awards.

A graduate of Tulane University School of Architecture in New Orleans, Louisiana, Smith introduced and taught a successful series of experimental courses focusing on urban design that not only blends into a city’s infrastructure, but also meets neighborhood, governmental, investor, and environmental demands. As a classically trained architect with the city’s oldest historic firm, Smith’s projects included working on the first mixed-use, multi-family Rowhouses in America, the Pontalba Buildings in the French Quarter.

In 1993 he opened the doors to his own firm and began leading the way in traditional, sustainable, and smart infill design. His approach to working hands-on with neighborhood groups and clients while satisfying the demands of government codes and budgets is unique. Smith is licensed to practice architecture in Oregon, Washington, California, Hawaii, New York, Florida, Michigan, Colorado, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Louisiana. Barry Smith is a licensed Real Estate Broker in Oregon.
